Benefits of Massage
The benefits of massage therapy are numerous for both the Body and the Mind. Some of the conditions that massage therapy might help with include: mental or physical stress, tension, or fatigue; muscle, joint, or nerve related pain; digestive issues; spams or cramps; poor self-confidence or esteem; and constrictions, adhesions, or reduced range of motion. The benefits received from massage therapy will vary from person to person and cannot be guaranteed.
Contraindications of Massage
Likewise, some conditions contraindicate massage therapy in portion or in its entirety. Massage therapy will not be performed on a client whose blood pressure is less than 90/60 or greater than 138/100, is in shock, has acute pneumonia, has toxemia, has a fever of 99.4 or greater, has an acute infectious disease, or is subject to parasitic infestation. The practitioner reserves the right to refuse to perform massage therapy or require a physician's consent before performing massage therapy. It is very important for the prospective massage recipient to be honest and thorough when providing information about his or her current and past medical history.
Pregnancy and Massage
Although massage does provide therapeutic benefits during pregnancy, additional concerns must be addressed. That is why special certification is required before a massage therapist can perform services on a woman who is pregnant or who has recently given birth to a child. Hand Over Hand Massage & Wellness does not currently offer massage services to women that are pregnant, might be pregnant, or who have recently given birth within the last 6 weeks. Please talk to the therapist to see if he can refer you to a Pregnancy Massage Therapist.

Ambiance
It is our sincerest desire to provide an atmosphere that is both relaxing and therapeutic for the recipient.
At times, the recipient may wish to have someone present in the room while he or she receives a massage. This is perfectly acceptable, and the recipient may have one guest present in the room while the massage is being performed. Individuals under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a legal guardian at all times.
Sometimes conversation and/or certain topics have a tendancy to distract from the therapeutic process or create stress. The therapist reserves the right to limit conversation or request a change in topic if he believes this might be the case. The therapist may also end a session if the request to refrain from crude, abusive, or vulgar language is not respected.
Hand Over Hand Massage & Wellness may have some CDs available to play during your session that provide a soothing atmosphere. The client may also bring in his or her own CD of music to play as long as it is free from suggestive, vulgar, or offensive language.
Please silence or turn off all cell phones during the session.
The Session
Each client will be asked to fill out an intake form that provides personal as well as current and past medical information. Intake information may be filled out prior to arrival or concurrently with the consultation session.
All clients are subject to a 30-minute consultation, that is to occur prior to his or her first massage session, at no cost to the client. This consultation will provide an overview of policies and procedures; allow the client time to ask questions relating to the practitioner, practice, or treatment; and allow time for the therapist to conduct a formal or informal evaluation of the client to create a plan for massage treatment. Following the consultation, the client (and legal guardian if applicable) will be asked to sign a consent form. This consent form for treatment is to be renewed annually or, in the case of medical message and/or professional referral, for each incident.
Following your consultation, the therapist will provide instructions as to positioning on the table and will then leave the room to allow you time to disrobe and position yourself on the table. Although massage therapy can be performed through clothing, it is most beneficial with direct contact with the tissues. You will never be asked to remove more clothing than what you are comfortable with, nor will the therapist perform massage therapy in any place which you wish not to be touched. Proper draping will be provided at all times that covers any area that is not being massaged. Breast tissue, reproductive organs, and gluteal crevice will not be exposed nor massaged. Following the massage, the therapist will once again provide you with instructions and will leave the room to allow you time for respite, to get off the table, and get dressed.
It is requested that if any person needs assistance with disrobing; getting dressed; or getting on and off the table that a personal assistant be brought with.
